Information for the 2019 exams

New session update from ActEd

New Tuition Bulletin

The new Tuition Bulletin for the session leading to the September 2019 exams is now available.  To apply, please visit our online store, where you can also view the course venues that have been provisionally booked, and see an indicator of the number of places available on each course.

If we haven’t advertised the tutorial that you’re looking for, please still submit your request and we will endeavour to add a course if there is sufficient demand.

But don’t forget that if you might change your study plans in the light of your exam results, we recommend that you book a place on a late-starting Regular Tutorial or a Block Tutorial rather than a standard Regular Tutorial. However, there is always a limit to the number of Block Tutorials that we can run and so please consider a Regular Tutorial if possible.

Online Tutorials

This session we are offering Live Online Regular or Block Tutorials in many subjects as well as Live Online Preparation Days in Subjects CP2 and CP3 and Paper B Preparation Days in CM and CS Subjects. These courses aim to replicate as closely as possible what you would experience at a face-to-face tutorial, without the need to travel to a venue.

If you would like even more flexibility then our Online Classroom may be the answer. It provides you with pre-recorded tuition in very short, easily accessible units, covering the same topics and questions as used on a typical face-to-face tutorial. You will be able to discuss problem areas with fellow students and/or with a tutor using a discussion forum.

Subject CM and CS Paper B Preparation Days

Students wishing for some additional tutor support for Paper B, working through exam‐style questions, may wish to attend a Preparation Day. These will be available Live Online or face‐to‐face.

Tutors will assume that attendees have used the Paper B Online Resources (PBOR), which form part of the new CMP and so will be reasonably familiar with the course content and the fundamentals of either Excel or R. You will not be taught the essential skills of working in Excel or R on the Preparation Day.

Students attending a Paper B Preparation Day must bring their own device to the tutorial capable of running either Excel or RStudio as required.

Transition from April to September

The academic year for actuarial students runs from 1 September to 31 August. The Syllabus, Core Reading and ActEd Course Notes do not change during this period (although details of minor corrections to study material are available from our website). Therefore, all core services that we offered in the session leading to the April 2019 exams are still available.

ASET, mini-ASET and Mock Exams

Where available, ASET will also remain unchanged and cover the relevant questions from the exams set in 2014-2017. The 2018 papers are not included in ASET.

A mini-ASET will also be available (expected to be despatched around mid-August) and will cover the April 2019 paper(s) only.

A new Mock Exam 2 will be available later in the session in addition to the existing Mock Exam.

Good luck with your studies.
